They say the greatest threat facing humanity today is the effects brought about by climate change. But as "to who, how and when should do something" debate continues, more and more damage is inflicted on the environment. Perhaps the urgency of addressing this matter is not a priority for some since the effects are already felt far from them. But if the carbon emissions really contributes to global warming, the ultimately all of us will be affected someday. Some scientists are pushing a line of thought that there is no evidence to show that carbon emissions actually causes global warming. However, by still sticking to what is deemed right to address the climate change, nothing will be lost. It is still a worthy measure. for example, fossil fuels are not there for ever and apart from the perceived contribution to climate change, carbon emissions are not healthy. A deal can easily become another threat. a threat to livelihoods whom they fall under our care. Nobody enjoys the effects of something like a depression or collapsing economies. It is understandable that a legally binding deal may see some industrialized countries lose more in terms of wealth and jobs. On the other hand, some rapidly developing countries see a legally binding deal as a threat to their road to prosperity for the same reasons. What is good is that now everybody is well aware of what and when they should put in plans to initiate adaptive measures since it seems business will not be as usual in future. In other words, a balanced thought is urgently needed just as much as the urgency to address the issue at hand is needed. Lets be sincere here. We cannot continue to entertain promises all the time. Copenhagen Summit was a success in many ways. Some opinions/measures that appear wrong can be used as tools to learn how to come up with better alternatives in future. Lets not forget to commit a substantial amount of resources in creating awareness in this topic. Let every child everywhere grows up knowing that there is a threat to the world and he/she has a responsibility. They will grow up making their contributions however small they are, they will add up to something better. They will grow up knowing that they are facing a threat and their work is to invent new/support existing ways of preventing/avoiding the threats. Therefore, if part of our goals is to create a pool of say over four billion environmentally aware and responsible people, we will be successful in away. And future conferences will be successful too! Or what do you think? Thanks to that 15-year old boy who invented source of electricity to power streets by using energy from passing vehicles. Imagine how far we will go if our future generations grows up with that kind of intelligence.
