Time away from Copenhagen

It has been a while since I left Copenhagen to come back to the States to conduct research for my Master's thesis. I am currently working on assessing the toxicity of environmental pollutants on human lung cells. These pollutants are part of Nanotechnology, which is a rapidly growing field in the industry/engineering and biomedical sector. With that being said, the risk and effects of the so called "Nanomaterials" (<100 nm in diameter) in the environment and human health, are not very well…See More

I just got done with my last exam this week. I have completed all 10 classes that are required from my Master's program. In about 10 days I will be starting my Master's thesis. It will be in the area of nanotoxicology due to nanoparticles released in the environment. Feels good to be done, but I still have to read for my thesis and pack :((See More

Week 58, 59, 60, 61 and 62 in Copenhagen

I just realized I have been gone for a while. I've had so many things on my mind that I have not had some quiet time to pull all my thoughts together and write my blog.As I am taking my last two classes of my Master's, it has really crazy catching up and thinking about thesis. Taking a course at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, I got to meet a lot of new students in my class that are part of another program. Group work is always a good start to meeting people and socializing. However, I…See More

Week 51&52 in Greenland

I have been super excited about going to Greenland ever since I learned that I was one of the selected students to go on this trip. I have been talking to my friends about it for months and it seemed too good tobe true. After coming back, I know that I had all reasons to have felt that waybecause Greenland was truly a wonderful place. The 7 of us (5 students and 2professors) left Copenhagen on July 27th and after a 4 hour flightwe found ourselves in Kangerlussuaq, the town where the main…See More

It is amazing how time flies by. The past couple of weeks I have been very busy with papers and reports. I have one more week of school and it's getting very crazy. I have one more report to turn in on Friday and then exams next week. Planning to do a bit of traveling in Europe this summer with InterRail, and now I have to figure my route and train itineraries.Cannot wait to be done..... oh yeah... 40 th and 41st week in Copenhagen

Finally the weather is starting to get better...Good news.... I passed my Danish exam whooohoooDuring this time, I am trying to be very productive during the week, so I don't have to do so much schoolwork during the weekend as the weather is starting to get very nice. The off days from the holidays have been awesome since they made for a longer weekend. It was the carnival on Friday-Sunday, and everyone was out in the park in a 25 degree weather. I had been longing for these kind of days for a…See More

Week 38 and 39 in Copenhagen

I finally got to see some green in Copenhagen this last week. Spring might be coming....It is a very nice atmosphere by the lakes and in the city center. The flowers planted on the sides of the streets give a little more color to the city. I wish we had a bit more sunshine though. I cannot believe it is still cloudy in May. The temperatures have been quite low too. It might be the cooling effects of the volcano... I like to leave it to that....These two weeks I have been traveling between the…See More

Week 37 in Copenhagen, Meeting with the Prime Minister of Denmark

On Friday, us COP15 scholars met with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen. It was quite and interesting but yet simple dialogue. The office is located in the Christianborg palace. I must admit this is the most humble Prime Minister's office I have ever seen. The table, chairs and everything else was very simple. The most expensive piece must be the China set from which we had tea and coffee. Mr. Rasmussen asked us about our studies and experiences in Denmark, including…See More

32nd, 33rd, 34th, 35th and 36th week in Copenhagen

Counting back the weeks made me realize that I have been gone for a while. Blok 3 was really tough and the past 2-3 weeks I have not have time for barely anything. I have been really busy with laboratory reports and studying for exams. The curriculum has been a bit heavy, including theoretical and practical exercises. I did not have any background for these classes, so I had to put extra effort to get to the right level. Both classes were running for the first time with the new block structure.…See More

30th week in Copenhagen

This week I have been quite busy with lab experiments for both classes. It is always getting more challenging and the professors are expecting more. We were given a topic and we had to design our own experiment. It actually takes some time to write these protocols because you have to take into account many factors. Friday night was A-vej bar at my school. I actually got to meet a few new people. There are many international students that have left and many new ones that have landed in…See More

56th and 57th week in Copenhagen

We are now landing in Copenhagen. The temperature is 12 degrees.

I was looking very much forward to getting out of the plane when I heard this. The first week was a bit of weather shock for me as I was coming from 30 degree weather. I started school again, and I must say it is a bit hard to get back to studying when you have had a long summer holiday.

The second week I caught up with some of my friends and got used to being really busy again.
