Last summer as student

Looking at the weather outside here in Denmark, I think I can surely say that the last summer as student is oficially over (at least in forseeable future). As good as it has been, despite one of the rainiest summers in Denmarks history), the project work is still there. We will be back in uni this week, and will see all our course mates, most of whom are also on their finish line with masters program and have been working on thesis throughout the summer. Hopefully the team efforts will merge in…See More

Published!

One of the moments when you feel that the hard project work and all the late nights and long days spent at the library have all been well worth it, is definitely when you get your baby printed and have paper version of it in your hands. As fun and interesting the project work can be, these are no doubt some of the highlights of RUC semesters:) We however managed to prolong the joy, because 2 of the projects that I have been working on during the past semesters got published in a book format.…See More

Desalination and low carbon development

One of the most interesting things within our project have been looking at the view on desalination's environmental externalities. Especially in terms of energy consumption to drive the processes of desalination. We are looking at the case study of Spain for our thesis and it is one of the countries that has set out to considerably increase it's desalination capacity in near future. Already now being one of the leading countries within desalination, the capacity of Spain is set to nearly double…See More

Things to do when sun returns

With some amazing sunny Easter days ahead, things have not gotten any less busy than they have been. We are currently looking into exploring case study of Spain for our project on desalination and it is really interesting to read on how developed the desalination industry in Spain actually is.In addition to that, our previous semester project just got published in a book format by a German academic publishing house! Although not expecting it to be the bestseller of the year, it is so great to…See More

The last semester with the thesis work has officially started and luckily we are in full speed ahead with our project work. Or at least trying to be :) I have been quite lucky to be able to continue on the work that me and my group did the previous semester - the topic of sustainable desalination and the ways to best integrate it in country's energy infrastructure. I suspect there will be a lot of interesting things to dig deeper into, so I am actually looking forward to the research work. In…See More

2011

It is the final countdown for the 3rd semester of our master's studies! We have just received our exam questions and the exam is scheduled to be in the beginning of the next week. Once done with that, it will be time to get on with the master's thesis. Preparing for exam is surely taking some time now, but apart from that I have been working at UNEP Risø centre as student assistant. This has been a wonderful experience so far. I have been primarily appointed to help work connected with the CDM…See More

November

We just got done with the last class this semester and now its full speed ahead with the project work. The hand in of the work will be in January and it seems that it's just around the corner, with all the work we have to do. But it will be great to have the time to focus only on the project, with all the essays handed in.Apart from that, Denmark just celebrated Halloween and we had a great get-together with two of the other COP15 students - Ankit and Denisa. Seems like everyone will be heading…See More

Halfway through

The third master's semester is halfway through and its busyyyyyy! The classes will be done in a while here at our department. Most of them finish in the first week of November to be precise. Nevertheless, there will be no relaxing after that - that is the time when we will go ahead with our project work in full swing. It is still on the topic of desalination and it is getting more interesting as one digs deeper.Besides that, we had a great chance to meet graduates of our programme working in the…See More

3rd semester

My third master's semester at RUC has started and despite the busy days ahead, I'm really looking forward to it.This semester I'll be taking somewhat different classes from what I've been used to. For one I'll be taking a class on GIS - its been great fun so far (and challenging as well) and also a change to a somewhat more practical work compared to other classes. I intend to continue working on a project in the lines of what I have always have had great interest in - namely dealing with the…See More

COP15 students' visit to Greenland

Five of us, the COP15 students, had the wonderful opportunity to visit Greenland - the hotspot of climate change. We spent 2 weeks visiting different places in Greenland, amongst others Nuuk, Jakobshavn Glacier in Illulisat and the Arctic Station in Disko Island - and I think it was truly a once in a lifetime experience for all of us!Greenland is something special - you can stand on green grass and hike up a mountain, while watching icebergs floating just next to you - something you dont see…See More

Highlights from India I

I just wanted to share some of the best moments from our study group's trip to India. The experience was of course so intense that it is hard to show it just through pictures, but I think it will give at least a glimpse of this fantastic trip. part II coming soon!See More

Project work done!

After several months of work and several weeks of even harder work our project report has been signed in!This is generally one of the most fulfilling moments for all those studying in RUC, im sure. Working on the semester project is our baby and when we finally signed it in, its almost weird that there is no reading-writing-editing waiting for you at home. The relief is good and I think we all are exhausted after months of really hard work, but it feels real good that to look at the result and…See More
